what went well, Most everything went well I ran into a small issues with the oil pump. When I was working on the oil pump tony realized that part of the pump was broken. I then had to make a custom oil pump. what should you have done differently, I think it would have been cool if I had made some sort of guide on how to take apart and rebuild the motor. Something I could have done better was documentation. what stands out to you, Something that stands out to me is the fact that I got to do such a hands on project. Most 16 year old kids cant say that they have built a motor.

What advice would you pass on to future interns? What are the most important skills for a student to be successful at his/her internship? How could another student develop these skills prior to beginning internship?
My internship has made me consider mechanic school. I have not really searched up any new colleges but I plan on doing so. I have learned about some schools to check out.
I am very thankful for Colleen and Alvaro. Colleen was a big help getting me my internship. If it wasn't for Alvaro I wouldn't have even known that I could intern here. I am Also very thankful for my mentor I have learned a lot from him and I really appreciate the fact that he always takes the time to help me no matter how busy we are. I am also thankful for the technicians I work for cause they allow me to work with them.
The main characteristic I see in the people I work with and would like to develop is the hard working characteristic. My mentor Carl comes into the shop early and is one of the last to leave. He is constantly getting calls from all over the place about parts, service, and general questions. Even though Carl is usually on the phone he always makes time to help out and check on his technicians. My fellow technicians all work long hours and constantly are bust out car after car. They work no matter how the weather is. On one of the bad days the shop flooded and it didn't bother the technicians they just vacuumed it up and kept working. Working like this also takes a lot of passion. Passion is not really something you can train it is something that kinda just develops over time.
Communication is key to being able to succeed in a workplace. For me it was a major key, it was such a big key to my success because I was new to working on cars. If I ever had a question or ever needed help my mentor Carl was there for me. I also had lot of help with technicians. by having good communication I am able to succeed at the in the workplace, I can also see how communication is good for morale around the workplace like telling jokes or learning about co workers.
My project is going pretty well. For my project I am rebuilding a 4 cylinder BMW M10 motor. My project is not yet finished. The first step to my project was stripping down the motor. You start with the bigger components like the ignition, fuel pump, exhaust, intake manifold ETC. You then continue by breaking down internal components like after you take of the oil pan you take out the oil pump. Once you take off the head you can get into the engine block and take out the pistons and the crankshaft.
My work week is not as long as a school week. At work I feel that I get more done then I would at school. I feel this way because I can focus on one thing and not have to worry about switching classes or going to lunch. At work I feel like they give me a lot of trust I also feel that they do this at school. For example at school the trust us to go out for lunch. I think one thing I will bring back from internship is working hard. My work as an intern will be meaningful at school and in the future. I can apply work skills I learned here at school and I can apply knowledge of cars to different jobs in the future.
